GEORGE KALINSKY (1936-2025)

For nearly half a century, George Kalinsky (b. 1936, Hampstead, New York) was the official photographer of Madison Square Garden. Beginning with a chance encounter with Muhammad Ali in 1966 that would make his name, Kalinsky would go on to memorialize historic performances by sports and entertainment luminaries, including Michael Jordan, Willis Reed, Frank Sinatra, and John Lennon.

In 2001, PMDA named Kalinsky the International Photographer of the Year. His work has been exhibited in museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Library of Congress, The International Center of Photography, The New York Historical Society Museum, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

George Kalinsky died in New York in 2025.
