JESSE ALEXANDER (1929-2021)
Jesse Alexander was born in 1929 in Santa Barbara, California, where he still resides. He has been involved in motorsports photography since the early 1950s when he covered the original Mexican road race La Carerra Panamericana. He then spent many years in Europe photographing Formula One and famous long-distance sports car races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Mille Miglia, and Targa Florio. In addition to photographing the speeding cars, Alexander also captured behind-the-scenes glimpses of factory mechanics in their garages, drivers in intimate moments before taking their positions, and formal compositions of the vehicles themselves.
Jesse Alexander’s photographs have appeared in every prominent automotive publication in the world, including Car and Driver and Road & Track, in addition to publications such as Sports Illustrated and Newsweek.
