RICO PUHLMANN (1934 – 1996)
Rico Puhlmann was born in Berlin, and was briefly a child actor before beginning his studies of fashion and art history. In 1951, Puhlmann began work as a freelance fashion graphic designer in Berlin for leading European magazines like Constanze, Burda, and VOGUE Paris. Eventually, Puhlmann pursued fashion photography and his work was published in Film und Frau, Petra, Brigitte, Stern, and VOGUE.
In 1970, Puhlmann moved to New York He began working as a permanent freelance photographer for leading magazines such as Glamour, GQ, Fashion of the Times, and Harper’s Bazaar, and would continue to photograph the advertising campaigns for Emanuel Ungaro, Fendi, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, and Revlon.
Puhlmann died in 1996 in a plane crash on his way to Paris on assignment.
