Looking At Life at Staley-Wise Gallery

Next stop: Staley-Wise, in the SoHo neighborhood, where the archives of Life magazine are currently on display. Founded in 1936 by Henry Luce, the magazine made its mark with its striking, extraordinary images of 20th-century American life, before ceasing its weekly publication in 1972 to become a monthly. The gallery walls thus feature the gazes of Martha Holmes, Harry Benson, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Loomis Dean, Lisa Larsen, John Dominis, Nina Leen, or Abe Frajndlich, among many others.
